Nippen

The Nippen (Megacephalus foidetecola) is one of the more derived examples of the Torlogs. They are 18 inches in length, with much of that being their head. They display extreme specialization in a subterranean lifestyle, with a semi- cylindrical body, short limbs, and long claws. Additionally, it is nearly blind, with very small eyes. They have an elongated lip which has split in 2 to help feel their way around (A case of re-evolution). They spend almost all of their lives underground, as it is much cooler than the surface, only venturing to the surface every so often, even then it is normally during late dusk or early dawn.

They are normally can be found foraging for food in a temporary tunnel a few feet below the surface, and have permanent ones several feet lower. They can be found over much of Pangea's inner deserts, absent from only the most arid regions.

They feed on anything that they find in their tunnels, including roots, tubers, arthropods, worms, and even small vertebrates. They kill their prey by crushing them, having a surprisingly strong bite force. When needed, they can go for several weeks without eating, thanks to both their ectothermy and fat reserves in their lower neck.

They have no defined breeding season, but when they do, they give birth to 4 young after a gestation period of a few months. Under good conditions they can live for over 20 years.
